Group-Sponsored BATS’ Horror Contest: Carnival
Details
Deadline: | Feb 28, 2022 |
Fee: | Free |
Come out on the street and join the Mardi Gras parade! The drums, the dancing, the costumes!
Or is it a sinister cavalcade wending its way to a dangerous festival? When the clouds roll over the sun do you find yourself caught up in the freak show with no way out? Or does a Horned Ringmaster crack his whip at you under the big top?
Tell us your Dark Carnival tales. Horrify us with your scary stories of twisted fêtes and warped fiestas. Take us to a fair of dread and listen to our screams.
This is a horror genre contest, with the theme of carnival. Stories must be Horror and they must be Carnival related. “Carnival” needs to be a bigger event than a party and not as focused as a one act performance. Circuses are good, but football finals are out. So it could be a rock festival, but not a Rolling Stones concert. It could be a street party, but not an office party. School fête, Church fête—sure. Those things will suck the life out of anybody.
“But what about sub-genres?” I hear you ask. Good question. Plant the story firmly in Horror. Write something that everyone will know is Horror. Sub-genre classification is not important, just so long as Horror is obviously the primary genre.
You have up to 2500 words, and you have until February 28, 2022, 11:59pm UTC.
Prize money for this contest is provided by the Scribophile Writing Contest Prize Fund.
