The season's turned, a Hunter's moon shall rise
above the towns and fields of ripened grain.
Yet flitting shapes obscure October skies,
their shadows stretch across the lawn and lane.
And something comes to those who are asleep
to drain the blood, the life, the very soul.
Undead the fiend that mortal farmer reaps,
or stalks the alleys dark to take its toll.
Our theme, the Nosferatu grim and dire,
in verses writ, described how e'er you please.
A sonnet scrawl about the dread vampyre,
to thrill the heart or make the blood to freeze.
So grab a pencil, scribble lyrics keen,
compose a piece to grace our Halloween.
Strigoi, Jiang Shi, Chupacabra, Vampire; legends of undead creatures that feed on the living are a near-universal trope and the subject of literature in many forms. Alluring Succubus or horrifying Nosferatu, write one or more sonnets on the subject and submit them by Halloween.
Not sure just what qualifies as a sonnet? Check here, here, and here for descriptions of the form.
