Member-Sponsored 2018 Historical Fiction Time Travel Contest
Details
Deadline: | Oct 15, 2018 |
Fee: | Free |
Write a short story between 1,000–3,000 words about you or a character traveling from 2018 back in time, and bring your favorite historical era alive!
The focus of your entry should be mostly historical rather than how you or the character travels through time; i.e. the time traveling/sci-fi component, if included, should be a supporting plot at most, not the dominant or only plot. Research and historical accuracy are important but so will be telling an original, engaging story and transporting readers to that era with all the senses, to experience it as good as first-hand.
So in a nutshell, historical accuracy, writing style and a well-presented story are equally important but if you don’t like doing or plan on not doing any research (and it will show), this isn’t the contest for you.
All sub-genres of historical fiction are welcome except alternate histories, because it will be impossible to tell whether historical inaccuracies are due to a lack of research or not. So to be clear, no alternate histories, but all other sub-genres such as romance, fantasy, horror, humor/humor, etc. will all be accepted.
For this contest “historical” is defined as anything 50 years ago (1968) or earlier.
No poetry or novel chapters will be accepted.
