Group-Sponsored Ink and Sorcery, Epic Warfare! Contest
Details
Deadline: | May 20, 2016 |
Fee: | Free |
Sponsored by the Mystic Workshop!
In 3,000 words or less, write a short story of an epic fantasy war scene for us! It must include, but is not limited to: supernatural creatures and/or weapons, epicness on a grand scale, and a scene of the aftermath, to show us how the war affected your MC(s). Any and all POVs and tenses welcome. Make our hearts pound as magic sizzles through the air, roasting your enemies!
You can have dragons flying overhead, setting fire to the warriors below. Or cannons with unreal energy spheres blasting away lines of armies. Or mystical swords/maces/axes/any weapon remotely feasible hacking away at the evil monsters invading your land. Vampires? That's fine. Werewolves? Goblins? Trolls? Giants? Elves? Fairies? They're all allowed to be in the war scene too, if you want to jam them all in there! Anything can happen in your war scene, so long as it's decidedly fantasy and makes a modicum of sense ;)
Come on, all you epic fantasy writers! Are you heroic enough to show us your best fantastical war scene? Can you put us in the carnage and make us feel like we're there? Can you move us to tears for the futility of it all? Show us that you can!

Rules
To enter the contest, post your work on Scribophile and check the box that says "Enter this work into the Group-Sponsored Ink and Sorcery, Epic Warfare! Contest." The checkbox will be visible until the contest deadline.
Submissions should be no longer than 3,000 words. However, if you go a little over, we won't disqualify you for it--a war scene needs some leeway for creativity, after all. If it's inching toward the 3,100 mark, that's okay. Just don't go over. 3,150 is a tad too long, sorry.
Entry is free, but you'll need karma points to post your work. You can earn karma points by writing critiques of work by other members.
Only one entry per person is allowed; multiple entries will be disqualified.
Please ensure that all submitted stories fit the fantasy/paranormal genre. All other genres will be disqualified (sorry!).
Honorable mentions will be notified in the contest thread in the forums and via Private Message.
Submission guidelines
Your work must have public visibility on Scribophile until the winners are announced.
Only new, previously unpublished work will be accepted.
No novel scenes, please, unless you truly think it could stand alone as a short story. If there's a cliffhanger at the end of the submission and no scene of the aftermath, you will be disqualified.
Submissions must be in a short story format. It must be able to stand alone with a solid beginning, middle, and end. You can thrust us right into the battle, but make sure we aren't confused as to what's going on right off the bat.
