A youthful spirit feels in extremes and can greet the Holidays with ebullience or desolation. Capture that spirit in a YA story of 3,000 words or less, using as inspiration the acts of giving and receiving. While the theme is Holiday inspired, entries need not center around Holiday gifts.

Rules
Must be YA (must target an audience between the ages of 11 and 18)
Must be a complete, stand-alone short story or poem
Must be 3,000 words or less according to Scribophile's count
Must have Public visibility on Scribophile until a winner is announced
Must be entered before Midnight UTC on January 7th
Multiple submission allowed
Submission guidelines
To enter the contest, post your work on Scribophile and check the box that says "Enter this work into the Group-Sponsored Gifts Given and Received Contest." Your work will automatically be considered.
The checkbox will be visible until the contest deadline, which is in UTC time.
Entry is free, but you'll need karma points to post your work. You can earn karma points by writing critiques of work by other members.
If you have placed in a contest in the past with a particular piece, you may not resubmit that piece in other contests.
