Writing Class FAQ
If you have any questions about our writing classes that aren’t covered in this FAQ, just contact us directly and a real person will get back to you ASAP!
How do your online classes work, exactly?
Check out this detailed page to read about how all of our online writing classes are conducted.
Is any special software required to participate in a class?
No, all you need is a computer with a modern web browser — just like the one you’re using to read this very page. Classes are conducted on the Scribophile website, and videoconferences are conducted via Zoom. You can log in to Zoom using your web browser, too.
How much of a time commitment is each class?
Different classes have different expectations, but generally our classes are designed to fit comfortably into your busy day-to-day schedule. With the exception of prescheduled videoconferences, the online nature of our classes means that you can participate at your own pace, at any time of day or night. Most classes are divided into weeks of content, so you have an entire week to explore the week’s material, complete exercises, and chat with the instructor and your fellow students as your schedule permits.
What if I miss a videoconference?
Sometimes real life gets in the way, and that’s OK! All videoconferences will be recorded and posted to the class’s homepage, so that you can watch them later in case you miss a session, or if you want to review a session later.
I’m not very technically-inclined. Can I still participate in a class?
Of course! We’re happy to give you any personal help you might need to make sure you’re comfortable with participating in our classes. If you find yourself needing help with an aspect of participating in the class, just send us a note and we’ll personally reply.
Do I have to be on camera during class videoconferences?
Not at all! You don't have to turn your camera on if you’re not comfortable doing so. You can still join the call, but simply not appear on-screen.
Can I get university credit for taking a writing course at Scribophile?
No, our courses are for your personal enrichment only. They can’t be applied as credit towards other educational institutions like universities.
